Born, Fiord' Aliza Charles on September 2, 1979 at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; to a wonderful mother, Julia and amazing Father Luis Emanuel. Fiordaliza is her mother's only child but, she does have other siblings on her father's side.
Her family migrated from the Dominican Republic to Hoboken, New Jersey in August of 88 and on early February of 90, her and family relocated again to Harlem, New York City; where she began her third grade elementary education at "Ralph Bunche Elementary" also know as (P.S 125) and soon after her graduation, she began her studies at Roberto Clemente Junior High School located in Harlem and also known as (I.S 195).
In late 90's and after her parents separation, Fiordaliza and her mother relocated to the Bronx, New York and she graduated from Roberto Clemente Junior High School and she proceeded to Adlai E. Stevenson High School but, in her last semester, she had to transfer out to an alternative High School due to her pregnancy of her now 14 years old daughter Kadiya. Through out all these changes, she still managed to obtain a High School Diploma from Bronx Regional High School in 1998.
In Summer of 98, she began her studies as an Elementary Teacher at Bronx Community College and soon after her first semester she started an internship at Bronx E.O.C a day care center, located in the Bronx NY; as a teachers aide. This was her first paying job and it gave her the opportunity to assists teachers to prepare children for elementary school and she loved her job but, unfortunately the job ended due to not enhough funds for her to be able to continue her training and by the time funds became available her family had already relocated to Lexington Park, MD.
In June of 2003, she and her ex husband separated and she relocated back to the Bronx and Fiordaliza moved back in with her mother Julia until she could find a new job and affordable housing, Fiordaliza and her mother did not get along too well because, their personalities clashed and at the age 24 she did not know how to handle living under anyones else rules so, she decided that it was time to move out. She moved in with her bestfriend Selina's family, she loved being a part of this family because, she was able to do whatever she wanted whenever she wanted and she was treated like an adult but, eventually she had to move out because, it was getting too crowded after Sabrina's son moved back in with them.
After a few weeks on the couch Fiordaliza was fortunate enough to find a room located in Brooklyn, N.Y and everything was going great for a while until, she had to evacuate the premises because, it was going to be closed down due to so many failed inspections, that the landlord would not fix, this was the moment she decided that it was time to get her own place and to stop being dependable on others so, she entered the homeless shelter at EAU.
As life would have it this was a journey that she will soon never forget. Everyday was challenging for Fiordaliza. Most of the time she was not able to get something fresh and healthy to eat for her daughter or get a good night sleep. She nearly had to fight for a seat for her child at the E.A.U everyday because, this place was extremely crowded and it was becoming a night mare. Everyday she had to wait to wee hours of the morning to take a bus, that would take her and her daughter somewhere to sleep for the night and they had to be ready by 6 am to go back to E.A.U and register or they would have had to start the application process all over.
Fiordaliza lost a lot of weight during this time because she could not sleep besides she had to watch her belongings and that her daughter was safe from getting bit by a mouse at some of the places that they were taken to sleep at night and all of these things had her stress but, Fiordaliza kept Praying and her faith has never let her down. God has always beenby her side and after 5 weeks of praying and providing all of the documents and actually going to court to prove that her and her daughter had no where else to go. E.A.U approved her application and the were placed in a T-1 apartment which was a private room in a shelter, until her application for section 8 or New York Public Housing was accepted.
Fiordaliza, was in the shelter for about two weeks when she discovered that most of the people in the shelter for two or more years and as she asked around why this was the case, she found out that the family did not do their part or produced the paperwork that was needed to get approved for an apartment. After these findings Fiordaliza decided that this would not be the case for her and her daughter, with-in three months, not only did she prove to her shelter case manager that she was ready to take on the responsibilities as a home owner and she also promised herself that she will never put her daughter in a situation like this again.
